An overview of the sometimes overwhelming job of Patrol Director. This class will help you understand some of the pitfalls of the job. It will be a interactive class with lots of discussion.

Great opportunity to practice your way finding skills!  Joseph has set up 4 locations to find, fun times by all.  This will be practicing your skills with UTM & WGS 84 datum!

Discussion/update on NSP Outdoor Risk Management online course and risk management efforts throughout the ski and bike recreation community.  ORM Advisor present to answer questions and give opinions in the risk management field.  ​

This will be a working break-out session for patrollers interested in learning how to find out about the history of their own patrols and to begin the writing process.

Savvy Snow Survival Skills for Youth

Would you like to empower youth by teaching them winter survival skills with a positive and playful approach? Savvy Snow Survival Skills is a collaborative project with the City of Eugene Parks and Recreation and the Willamette Backcountry Ski Patrol.
​
​Participants, ages 9 -12, learn how to use the ten essentials, provide cold weather First Aid, find their way through a snowy wilderness, construct  simple emergency shelters, and other survival skills at this day camp. Come learn how we do it.

At the national level the Nordic/ Backcountry program is having several broad program discussions which we would like to have input to from our division.  These discussions will lead to development of new manuals for the program(s) and a vision of how to move forward.  Some of the topics to discuss are:

  • Tracking training and refreshers
  • Recruiting and retaining membership
  • Nordic and Backcountry programs – should they have separate tracks?

Toboggan Analysis and Scoring
- In the session we will take a look at videos and discuss what to look for, how to analyze, and score toboggan handling at Senior Final Evaluations.
- Time permitting, we will also look at a candidate working on becoming an Alpine patroller, analyzing toboggan skills at the new patroller level.  

Safety Planning for OET Operation and Training 
​Failing to plan is planning to fail.  This session will discuss some of the potential hazards of running toboggans and training new operators.  We will examine how to develop a plan to mitigate those hazards. A review of essential safety topics for running toboggans will be discussed. ​​

This session will present updates on LMS and on the ID education program.  Attendees will participate in discussions on how to intergrade using LMS in the ID course, and share instructing ideas for ID courses (ZOOM, hybrid course, face-to-face meetings).

This session will be registered as an "Instructor Development ID-ICE" course which participants should enroll in prior to the Convention.
