Medical
August 14, 11:15AM - 12:15PM
Rapids 3rd Floor
Course Description: Staying safe in the time of COVID. How best to protect yourself and others from infectious diseases. Open discussion on anything else medical that folks want to talk about.
Instructor:
Carl Heine (PNWD Asst Medical Advisor)
Carl Heine MD PhD FACEP FAWM, has been a patroller for 25 years and is a senior alpine patroller as well as a nordic patroller. He started patrolling at Snowbowl outside of Missoula MT then went to Mt Hood for 4 years while he was in medical school, moved to Wintergreen in Virginia while in residency. When he finished medical training he moved to Bellingham WA and patrolled at Mt Baker, before finally landing a job in Alaska (where he has wanted to live for many years because of the great winters and mountains). In AK he patrolled at Eaglecrest and was perfectly happy until the opportunity to help start a new medical school at WSU from scratch lured him to Spokane where he patrols for Mt Spokane. He is an emergency medicine physician with a specialty in wilderness medicine. He currently serves on the board of directors of the Wilderness Medical Society and the National NSP medical committee as well as supporting Jim Hamilton as the assistant medical director for the PNWD.
