Young Adult Patrollers
August 14, 11:15AM - 12:15 PM
Location: Cedar/Aspen Rm 2nd Floor
Course Description: Question and Answer, no presentation/lecture. What does the future of your Volunteer Patrol look like? Are your long-time patrollers retiring? Are you staying awake at night since resort management keeps asking if you have a sufficient patrol pipeline for the next 5 years? Well, wait no more - our newly appointed Divisional YAP Advisor, Tanja Carter, has a ready-made "plug and play" program for you! This is a completely new format that "could" be the answer to your patrol staffing challenges. At the very least, it is an engaging out of the box program you should consider. Use it as a sales tool if you are a regional director trying to appoint regional YAP advisors....Use it as a presentation if you are a resort patrol director discussing with resort management...use it as the program syllabus for the YAP patrollers, parents and mentors if you are a resort YAP program manager!
Instructor:
Tanja Carter (PNWD YAP Advisior)
BIO: Tanja began her ski career as a teen stocking boots at summer sales for Ski Chalet in Chantilly VA. She immediately fell in love with the industry. After a failed attempt at earning her masters and becoming a "real" business woman, Tanja took off to Seattle and somehow ended up managing a ski shop for a famous ski movie maker (yup, that guy). She subsequently was recruited by K2 skis, more for her trilingual skills than her ski skills… and spent her 20's traveling around Europe managing accounts for 3 brands (K2, Olin, Pre). This subsequently led to many years living in the Alps and managing international accounts for Tecnica/Lowa and other positions with Gore-Tex, Skins Compression Gear etc..
After retiring from almost 30 years in the industry, Tanja had the "brilliant" idea of investing a few weeks annually as a ski patroller…after all "how hard could it be?" Almost 4 years later, at Crystal Mountain, WA, she was awarded Rookie of the Year, is helping instruct OEC, is developing the Crystal Mountain YAP program and was recently appointed the Divisional YAP advisor. Her extensive coaching background (National's feeder programs as well as youth and adults) has been instrumental in developing a fresh new perspective on the YAP program which promises to change the way we "YAP!"
